Gospel music stirs the spirit. It can heal and inspire.
Sunday Best winner Tasha Page-Lockhart gave us her favorite gospel songs and what they’ve meant to her. Page-Lockhart will join an all-star group of singers to pay tribute to The Clark Sisters at ESSENCE Festival 2016, held June 30-July 3 in New Orleans. Before then, get into some of her gospel faves that will have you church shouting from your living room.
1. Lisa Page Brooks, “Help Me to Fight”
“My mom is my favorite singer and I just love hearing her sing this song.”
2. Commissioned, “Unworthy”
“This song is special to me because it was written by my dad. It’s a Commissioned classic and has that vintage Detroit sound.”
3. The Winans, “Millions”
“This song touches me because out of all the things I’ve gone through— drug abuse, molestation and low self-esteem, that alone could have took me out of here, but God kept me. Millions didn’t make it, but I was one of them who did.”
4. Fred Hammond – “You Are The Living Word”
“Fred Hammond at his best! I can never get tired of hearing this.”
5. Hezekiah Walker – “Calling My Name”
“So many times we go against God’s will, yet he still forgives us and gives another chance to get it right.”
